Update

It's been too long since I last posted. I've been traveling some. A few days in Madison, Wisconsin, and a few with the family in Houston. I'm now in Berlin where I will actually be for the next two months. I'm here on a DAAD stipend which allows me to work on my German. Currently, I'm working on a paper on Fichte, pre-reflective awareness, and the body. The paper is called "Fichte and the Possibility of Mindedness." It takes up some issues developed in the Dreyfus/McDowell debate and Fichte's Foundations of Natural Right. I will be presenting a version of it on July 17 at the Philosophisches Kolloquium at the University of Cologne. Besides that, I will be in Berlin working on the dissertation and my German. I do plan to keep up with the blog while in Germany, so keep an eye out. For those of you looking for some idealism related posts, check out SOH-Dan here and here on Hegel.

A New Year!

Not much to post about these days. I'm still getting back into the swing of things, and preparing for the Spring semester. I hope to start posting on Fichte again soon, and in the next few weeks a couple posts from guest bloggers will appear.

My New Year's Resolution, I've just decided, is to devote more time to philosophical posts on the blog. We'll see how that goes. With teaching and attempting to write a dissertation it seems unlikely. I might just start posting bits of the dissertation here and there.

If you have any German Idealism news please forward it my way.

Here is a CFP for the Young Philosopher's Lecture Series (Deadline January 20). Sounds like an interesting program.

One Month Anniversary!

A new semester is beginning for most of us, and that means we are likely overwhelmed with new courses, students and old friends. With August ending Self and World has now been up for one month, and I think it's off to a fine start. In August there were over 700 visitors, and it seems many have become regular readers. So that's great!

In September I plan to have some guest bloggers posting on Kant and Hegel, and I plan to post on Fichte, in addition to posts related to German Idealism and academia generally. I will be working also on Kant's Critique of Judgment, so expect some posts about that as well.

I want to thank everyone for checking out the blog and linking to it, and I urge everyone to spread the word about Self and World to your students, colleagues and friends. Happy Fall Semester!

About the Blog

The purpose of this blog is to serve as a site to think about German Idealism and related philosophical issues. I hope that it will also be a resource for students and scholars to become aware of current news, publications, conferences, and events related to German Idealism and Post-Kantian philosophy in general. In the near future I plan to involve other students and scholars of Post-Kantian philosophy to post on the blog as well. If you have news or anything you would like posted for now just send me an email.
